The Daily Industry News Gwin Wins Mont-Sainte-Anne Downhill; Buhl Second in 4X


Mont-Sainte-Anne, Quebec, Canada (July 4, 2011)Aaron Gwin (Temecula, Calif./Trek World Racing) won his third UCI Mountain Bike World Cup of the season, taking first in the downhill at Mont-Sainte-Anne on Sunday. Melissa Buhl (Chandler, Ariz./KHS Bicycles) finished second in the women’s four-cross final to earn her spot on the podium.

After qualify in second, Gwin beat Josh Bryceland (GBR/Santa Cruz Syndicate) by just under half a second. It was his second consecutive trip to the top of the podium, following his win at Leogang, Austria. The win moves Gwin into the lead of the UCI World Cup downhill standings.

Buhl won her semifinal race to advance to the final, where she finished behind Anneke Beerten (NED/Milka-Trek). Buhl trails only Beerten in the World Cup standings with one more four-cross competition left, coming at Val di Sole, Italy, in August.

In the cross-country competitions, Stephen Ettinger (Cashmere, Wash./ BMC MTB Development Team) finished fifth in the men’s U23 race. In the juniors’ XCO races, AliciaRose Pastore (Durango, Colo./Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory DEVO Sweet Elite) took fourth in the women’s race and Keegan Swenson (Park City, Utah/Whole Athlete-Specialized) took fifth in men’s race. Heather Irmiger (Boulder, Colo./Subaru-Trek) was the top U.S. women’s elite rider at 12th and Todd Wells (Durango, Colo./Specialized Racing) was the highest placing American elite man at 18th.

Windham, New York, is the next stop on the World Cup circuit, hosting downhill and cross-country races July 9 and 10.
