Mountain bikers got some fairly good news Tuesday night about the fate of a favorite local riding destination.
Tempe city officials filled residents and riders in during a meeting at the North Tempe Multigenerational Center. The half-hour session assured riders that the popular dirt jumps - sometimes known as The Pit - near East Marigold Lane were safe. And it possibly opened the door to future improvements and increased input from riders.
Alan Shelton, one of the riders who attended, was a leading figure in proposing and building the successful McPump Track at McDowell Mountain Regional Park, the first pump track in Arizona to be built on public land. Alan Shelton took time after the meeting to explain pump tracks to city officials.
