Amazing scenes here as Tracy Moseley wins the women’s downhill race.
Truly unbelievable scenes here as Tracy Moseley wins her fifth downhill race in Fort William and her second World Cup of the year. It was looking at one point that it might be a French whitewash, but Moseley and Atherton kept it together to raise the roof here in Scotland.
Under light cloud the sun came out just at the right moment. Earlier on Celine Gros had a front puncture and was out, Emmeline Ragot lost her chain, then Jonnier came down 6.6 second up, but knowing that she had not gone fast enough. Kintner came down 4.9secs off Jonnier’s time, saying that she had unclipped in the woods. Manon Carpenter was on a good run but crashed in the woods (8th), then Myriam Nicole bumped Jonnier off the hotseat, then Pugin did the same to her…a French one, two, three.
But it was Tracy Moseley who appeared in destroyer mode. 1.1secs up at the first split, 5 seconds at number 2 and then 7.5seconds ahead of Pugin at the finish. With only Atherton to go we knew it was going to be a British win. Atherton, still struggling with a shoulder injury, didn’t disappoint, she was in fact 0.9sec faster at the first split. But it wasn’t to be. She crossed the line 1.721seconds down on Moseley. A British one, two was complete. Atherton was deflated, Moseley was ecstatic and the crowd was going mental!
An exhausted Tracy Moseley just after she crossed the line. Atherton was still to come down the hill.
Close, but not close enough. Still a great result for Rachel Atherton.
The theme is 'superheroes'. Batman has a word with 'Wonderwoman' (cheese!)
Nice one Jill Kintner. Sixth place is none too shabby for your first World Cup.
